What to wear for a summer Fjordsafari

The Norwegian summer is a season of contrasts, especially in the fjords. You can experience blue skies, soaking rain, and wind—all in a single day. This is important to remember, especially if you're planning to explore the fjords.

Here’s how to make sure you stay comfortable and ready for adventure on your RIB boat tour!

What to bring and what to leave

  • Dress according to the local forecast

Before you arrive, check the local weather forecast and dress accordingly. If you’re comfortable in your own clothes outdoors, you’re ready for the adventure!

  • Leave your open shoes

We always recommend wearing closed shoes like sneakers or boots, even on sunny days. Our suits don’t cover your feet, and it can get chilly once we’re out on the fjord.

  • Leave you caps and bucket hats

The fjord wind isn’t very forgiving with loose hats or caps — they can easily be swept away. We recommend leaving them at home or safely at our reception before heading out on your tour.

What do we provide?

Flotation Suits

Our full-body suits are designed to keep you safe and warm throughout your trip. Our staff will help you get fitted and give a short briefing on how to put it on. The suits also have pockets where you can safely store your phone, water bottle, or other small items you’d like to bring along.

Goggles

We also provide you with tinted goggles that will be really handy once we reach our max speed. With the wind from the speed its nice to sheild your eyes, and no, your sunglasses will not do the same. If you have perscription glasses, dont worry! Our goggles have a large frame and your glasses should fit underneath.

On cold days we provide:

Gloves

We have both inner gloves and cover gloves.

Hats

You can borrow hats from us, washed after every use.

On rainy days we provide:

Rain Ponchos

Our flotation suits are water resistant, but not completely waterproof. On the very wet days we put a rain poncho over your suits to keep you dry.

Cover Boots

If your shoes are not waterproof, we have coverboots you can put over your own footwear to keep them dry.

FAQ

Can I bring my phone or camera on the tour?

Yes, you can! Phones and smaller cameras can be kept in your suit pockets for easy access. Larger cameras are fine to bring, but at your own risk. You’ll generally stay quite dry on the boat, unless it’s raining — in that case, consider how much water your gear can handle and bring a protective cover if needed. Please note: drones are not allowed on any of our tours.

Do we still have to wear the suits on hot summer days?

The short answer is yes — for your safety. The temperature also drops significantly once the boat starts moving, so even if you feel warm at the pier, you’ll be grateful for your suit once you’re out on the fjord.

Can I leave my belongings with you?

Yes, you can! We have lockers at our pier for smaller personal items you’d like to leave behind. For larger travel bags, we recommend storing them in the luggage storage at the station right by our pier before you arrive.

Important Reminders

Meet up on time

Remember to arrive at your check-in time, not the tour departure time. When you arrive, we’ll get you checked in, fitted, and dressed for the tour. Your check-in time will be clearly marked in your booking confirmation, or our team will let you know if you purchase tickets on site.

Restrooms before suits

There are no bathrooms on our boats, and once you’re in the suit, it’s tricky to remove all the layers. Please use the restrooms at the Visitors Centre by our pier before putting on your suit.
