The Difference Between FjordSafari & Winter FjordSafari

This winter season we announced that our FjordSafari (1,5h) is now available in the winter season.

But what is really the difference between this tour and our Winter FjordSafari?

While both of these tours offer a journey through some of Norway’s most stunning fjords, here are a few differences that might help you decide which tour is right for you.

FjordSafari: A glimpse of the fjords

The FjordSafari is a 1 hour and 30-minute tour, perfect for those who want to experience the breathtaking winter fjords in a shorter time frame. This tour is ideal for anyone on a tighter schedule.

On this tour, you’ll travel through the beautiful Aurlandsfjord and reach the entrance of the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord. The turning point for this tour is Sagfossen, an impressive and scenic waterfall (see number 8 in map below). Here, you’ll enjoy a beautiful view into the World Heritage site Nærøyfjorden.
Along the way, we’ll make several stops to get closer to nature, look for local wildlife, and listen to our guide’s stories about the area.

Winter FjordSafari : A Deeper Dive into Fjordland

For those looking for a more comprehensive experience, the Winter FjordSafari is the perfect choice. It offers everything the shorter tour does, plus more.

The Winter FjordSafari takes you deeper into the fjord system, offering a 2.5-hour immersive experience. You’ll journey through the entire Aurlandsfjord and into the narrowest section of the Nærøyfjord, where the boat turns around and slowly heads back
(Number 11 on the map below). This Winter tour also includes a stop in the Fjord Village Undredal (Number 6 on the map below). Here we will enjoy a warm drink and hear about life in this little village known for its goat cheese. You might even get a sample of the local goat cheese before heading back to Flåm. This tour allows more time to admire the stunning landscapes, hear more stories from your guide, and perhaps even spot more wildlife along the way.

What Both Tours Offer

Regardless of which tour you choose, both the FjordSafari and Winter FjordSafari will give you a personal and close-up experience of the fjords. Our RBB boats are designed for small groups, ensuring that you get the most out of your adventure. You’ll get to see spectacular natural sights and enjoy multiple stops where our knowledgeable guides will share local tales and historical insights.

Both winter tours are designed as soft adventures, making them suitable for almost everyone, from families with older children (over 6 years old) to older adults. We strive to make our tours as inclusive as possible, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the magic of the fjords.

Final Thoughts

Whether you choose the FjordSafari or the Winter FjordSafari, you’re in for a soft adventure through some of the most beautiful landscapes Norway has to offer. If you’re short on time, the FjordSafari provides a wonderful taste of the fjords, but if you want to experience the fjords and their villages in depth, the Winter FjordSafari is the way to go.

We look forward to welcoming you on board for a memorable Fjord adventure!
