Get ready for a hike through the Norwegian Highlands that takes you above the fjords and be rewarded with breathtaking mountain landscapes shaped by past ice ages.
The adventure begins with a drive from Flåm, passing viewpoint Stegastein, where you can appreciate stunning views before heading to the trailhead. Your guide will help you choose the most suitable route to reach the summit of Røyrgrind, standing at 1,363 meters.
Upon reaching the cairn, you can enjoy panoramic views of Aurlandsfjord and surrounding landscape. This area is where many hikers choose to conclude their ascent. The impressive cairn features a box with a notebook, allowing you to leave a record of your visit. Take a moment to breathe in the fresh mountain air, savor a Norwegian hiking treat, and capture a fjord view selfie before retracing your steps back to Flåm.
Traditional route
You can choose well-trodden path leads up the steep northern edge of Mt. Prest. This hike is demanding, with significant elevation gain and steep drops along the fjord side. At approximately 1,000 meters, you’ll encounter a particularly steep section where the path narrows and may be covered with loose stones. Those with a good fitness level will find the challenge rewarding, as the views improve with each step.

Less beaten route
This route is a local hidden gem, rarely visited by hikers. The first section offers scenic mountain views toward the renowned Aurlandsfjellet and eventually joins the traditional trail where you are rewarded with views over the fjords. It's less challenging than the main route, with a moderate difficulty level.
Quick information: Moderate difficulty with an exposed terrain on the top, 6.5km long hike with height difference is 319m.
