Snowshoe Hike
They say walking on snow with snowshoes is like walking on sand, where each step is light and floating. The snowshoes spread your weight evenly over the snow, so you almost glide above the soft, untouched surface without sinking in. It’s a dreamlike feeling of weightlessness, with each step soft and gentle, just like walking on sand.
The trip starts with a minibus ride along the Aurlandfjord, past the iconic Stegastein viewpoint, located 650 meters above sea level, before we reach the trailhead. You’ll be introduced to snowshoes, how to use them, and their history. During the 1.5-hour hike, your local guide will share insights into mountain farm life, the dramatic nature, and local culture.
You’ll enjoy a panorama view of the fjord, the town of Aurland, the village of Flåm, and surrounding snow-capped peaks. At the turning point, you’ll be served a hot beverage while we enjoy the peaceful beauty of the area. There are plenty of photo opportunities along the way. Before or after the hike, we’ll also stop at Stegastein viewpoint.
Afternoon Snowshoe Hike with Headlamp 15.30-18.00
Join us on a magical afternoon snowshoe hike! During December, January and parts of February, as daylight fades and dusk sets in, our afternoon tour includes a headlamp, creating an unforgettable winter atmosphere in the shimmering light of the snow, forest, and, hopefully, stars.
Our snowshoe hikes are perfect for beginners and offer a great way to experience Norway’s winter landscapes. Warm clothing is recommended.
Important: General fitness, but no experience is needed for this tour. Please read our guide on how to dress for a FjordSafari snowshoe hike
NB: Due to weather changes, warm spells could result in little or no snow, making the trip a hike instead.
